The Alexander Girard wooden doll collection was designed Alexander Girard in 1963 for his own home in Santa Fe. Alexander Girard's wooden dolls were inspired by his own extensive collection of works of popular art, and his passion for popular folk art of South America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Each doll has its own unique expression, some are cheerful while others have a more whimsical or serious expression. Part decorative object, part toy, the Wooden Dolls are based on originals found in the Girard Estate. The Vitra Wooden Dolls display beautifully, either as a single piece or when grouped together and provide a charming enhancement to any interior. Price is for 1 (one) doll. Each Alexander Girard Doll comes individually packaged in a small wooden box. Made of solid pine wood; hand-painted with mixed media, including feathers, twine, etc. Collect them all.
Together with his friends Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures of postwar American design. The decorative Wooden Dolls, designed and made by Alexander Girard, affectionately known as Sandro, for his own home in Santa Fe, were likewise inspired by his extensive personal collection of folk art. Part decorative object, part toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally created for Girard's own use. Based on originals found in the Girard Estate held by the Vitra Design Museum, the whimsical assortment of dolls, both joyful and grim, is now available as a charming enhancement to any interior.
