A deliciously sweet looking masterpiece of of modern design!  With its elegantly rounded shell on a chromed rounded pedestal, the inviting Orange Slice Chair has all the qualities of a comfortable modern chaise. The Orange Slice Chair was designed by French designer Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1960. Pierre Paulin trained to become a sculptor in Paris but an unfortunate accident left one of his hands partially impaired. He turned to furniture design and designed numerous design classics for the Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort. Pierre Paulin was able to infuse the free-flowing curves of sculpture into his fabulous chairs. This careful balance of rounded free-flowing design is typical of Pierre Paulin's organic furniture style. The simplicity and gently curved forms of his Orange Slice Chair for Artifort makes the design seem tranquil, pure and inviting.  Available in two heights.  Optional ottoman is also available. Designed in 1960, Orange Slice is a timeless icon that looks as fresh and inspired today as it did when it was first created. Anyone who sees several Orange Slice chairs together cannot fail to be touched by the playfulness fo the composition. From different visual angles, the Orange Slice shows several stages of 'curl up'. In fact, the chair seems to change shape every time you look at it. It seems to change shape every time you look at it. And yet its slices consist of two completely identical shells of pressed beech, covered with foam, on a chromed metal tubular base. Many people who see this chair feel a slight touch of nostalgia; especially when upholstered in orange fabric as Pierre Paulin intended.  But a neutral upholstery makes it truly timeless and a good match for transitional interiors.
