Danish Wooden Toys by Hans Bolling design
Designer: Hans Bolling
Manufacturer: ArchitectMade
Hans Bolling designed this wooden "Strit" figurine as a toy that could be enjoyed by both adults and children in 1954. Strit - crafted entirely by hand from teak and beech wood in Denmark - is a classic Scandinavian design toy, a perfect gift for design lovers of all ages! These carefully-crafted Danish wooden design toys offer long-lasting play value and heirloom-quality craftsmanship. Architectmade Denmark produces and develops high-quality design based on the creative and amusing animal world of Hans Bolling that celebrate the inner child in all of us. The company took its love of classic toys, woodworking and mid-century nostalgia to a new level by re-introducing these modern 1950s toys. Strit's movable legs, arms, torso and its head can be changed in any number of positions - from captivated to troubled, and anything in between - prompting us to reexamine and reconfigure our expectations: make him breakdance, dance the boogie woogie or bust a move - whatever you want; he's got the groove.
Strit fits with ArchitectMade's passion for creative flair, simplicity, refinement of form, Danish tradition and longevity. The highly specified and elaborate details of Strit's body add a sophisticated dimension to his form. Every angle, curve and bend has been craftily thought out over the span of a couple of years to convey a highly stylized, yet harmonious aesthetic object. Hans Bolling's wooden figurine is an elaborately designed play object with a flair of whimsy, which makes you look twice. Presented in gift box. Made in Denmark.
During the course of his lifetime, Danish architect/designer Hans Bolling (Hans Bølling) enjoyed the connection between design and fun like many of his contemporaries including Kay Bojesen. Born in 1931 in a small town of Braband in Denmark, Hans Bolling attended an Art- and Handcraft School originally to become an advertising designer, however some years later he followed his passion for architecture and graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Art Academy. He designed a plethora of art works, ranging from wooden dolls and furniture to villas, living complexes and town halls. Oscar the Dog and his Duck came to life in the 1950s during Hans Bolling's younger years, following the architect's interest in nature and animals. Here he decided to create small figures of animal figurines for his loved ones. Later, after winning an award he received a carpentry machine, which afforded him the opportunity to carve his beloved figures into wood. It is at this point during the Danish spring that the Mermaid, Dog and the Duck, and later its offspring - the Duckling, were born.
