Ingo Maurer's Floatation (aka flotation) was inspired by Shoji lamps (the Japanese rice paper hanging lanterns). The uniquely beautiful Floatation Lamp is a sensation to behold. The Japanese paper are shades nested within each other to create a soft, ethereal diffusion of light throughout a space. The height of Floatation can be adjusted with a red enameled iron ring, which serves as a counterweight.  The white lacquered ceiling canopy installs flush to the ceiling.   In a world of throwaways and built-in obsolescence, Ingo Maurer remains steadfast in their commitment to singular design and production by hand.  Each Ingo Maurer Floatation Lamp is made by craftsmen at the Ingo Maurer workshop in Germany. Available in three sizes and two cord lengths (either 6.6 feet for standard ceiling heights or 14.8 feet for taller ceilings).
