Fauteuil Direction is one of the classics in the history of modernist furniture design. The aesthetic quality of this modern looking chair, with distinctive armrests made of solid wood, has lost none of its freshness and inviting comfort over the years. Fauteuil Direction fits well in the domestic setting (where Prouv̩ himself used it) but can also be used in waiting areas.

Fauteuil Direction is a comfortable armchair especially suited for dining room seating. Its design exemplifies the constructive aesthetic for which Prouv̩ is so well known. This compact armchair is also ideal for the home office, where it is particularly striking in combination with the small Compas Direction desk. Outside the home, Fauteuil Direction cuts a fine figure in elegantly appointed lobbies, restaurants or waiting areas.

Vitra's Fauteuil Direction is a creation by French industrial designer Jean Prouv̩. Jean Prouv̩, who always considered himself a design engineer, was also the designer and manufacturer of his product ideas. His unique range of designs includes letter openers, door and window fittings, lamps and furniture and even prefabricated houses and modular construction systems; essentially, anything that can be designed and industrially manufactured.

• Seat and backrest: Polyurethane foam; cover material Twill or Cit̩.
• Armrests: Solid wood, oiled; natural oak, smoked oak or American walnut.
• Glides: Glides for carpets or glides with felt pads for hard floors.
