Agnoli 387® Modern Floor Lamp - Oluce - Steel & Travertine Stone (US Edition)
Tito Agnoli, Oluce, Italy
Designer: Tito Agnoli
Manufacturer: Oluce
New Agnoli 387 Floor Lamp for reading (74.9" h) in matte nickel-plated steel w/travertine stone base, an original Tito Agnoli design (early 1950s) for Oluce (mod. 387, USA edition). Agnoli 387, the iconic floor lamp designed by Tito Agnoli during 1954, is one of the finest examples of 1950s lighting design from Italy. Its sleek & modern tubular steel minimalist stem is centered on an off-white natural travertine base with pitted holes which gives it a uniquely Italian modernist touch. The adjustable lamp shade is equipped with a joint knob so you can adjust the direction of the light and its position; slide it up, slide it down or rotate it to any spot you want to illuminate. Place it behind your chair to read your books or along your bedside as a reading lamp.
Agnoli 387 is an authentic Oluce floor lamp design from Tito Agnoli who was part of the 'Milan 5', the influential founders of 1950s Italian mid century modern in lighting design. This group included Fontana Arte, Arteluce, Arredoluce, Stilnovo and O Luce. Agnoli was born into an Italian family, in Lima, Peru, in 1931. He came to Italy after the war. Trained as a painter (having studied with Sironi), in 1949 he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture, where he graduated in 1959 and was assistant to Gio Ponti and to Carlo De Darli. However, even in the early Fifties, he was already carrying out an intense professional activity in the field of design. He has created projects for, among others, Arflex, Cinova, Lema, Matteo Grassi, Molteni, Montina, Oluce, Pierantonio Bonacina, Poltrona Frau, Schiffini, Ycami. Several times recommended for the Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) Award, in 1986 he won the gold medal at the Neocon in Chicago. Some of his pieces are kept in the permanent collection of the MoMa in New York. He died in Milan on February 2012.
The base is made of natural travertine stone which has an attractive pitted surface and beautiful off-white to warm honey coloring. USA version Agnoli Floor 387 with wall plug suitable for outlets in the United States and Canada.
