RUGS from the Silaï collection, embroidered by hand using thick wool threads in different shades. Its design reinterprets the petit point technique in an innovative way, by using four stitches of different lengths. In this way, designer Charlotte Lancelot is able to achieve tile-like patterns to create four designs based on diamonds, squares, triangles, hexagons, octagons and crosses, thus recreating the mismatched floors that can often be found in old houses.
SILAÏ, A GAN SPACES COLLECTION
GAN spaces are collections meticulously constructed from innovative concepts and artisanal production methods. Based on the “petit point” embroidery technique, the SILAÏ collection reinterprets the basic rules of this craft by taking a new and very specific approach, applied both to the type of stitch and to the scale of thickness of the threads. A concept expressing the very personal style of its designer, Charlotte Lancelot. The attractive patterns on the rugs, poufs and cushions in the series are based on four different stitch lengths, hand embroidered with thick wool yarn on a PVC grid.
CHARLOTTE LANCELOT, DESIGNER OF THE SILAÏ COLLECTION
Charlotte Lancelot was born and raised in Brussels, where she studied industrial design at the Higher National School of Visual Arts of Cambre. After graduating in 2003, she worked at the office of architect and designer Alain Berteau for two years, before founding her own studio. The work of Charlotte Lancelot is characterized by a deep contemporary revision of traditional techniques and references to the past with new textures and color palettes. Her personal style can be appreciated in all of her creations, including Canevas, launched in 2012, Silaï (2015) and Canevas Geo (2018).
