Ingo Maurer Samurai MaMo Nouchies Series Lamp
Designer: Dagmar Mombach
Manufacturer: Ingo Maurer
Exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Samurai is an original formed table lamp from the MaMo Nouchies Series by Ingo Maurer. This lamp, which resembles a calyx, is formed artisticly out of natural colored paper, in whose center two stainless steel bars with transparent silicon batons accommodate. The metal base of the Samurai secures a safe stand, a stainless steel connection cable, and a cord transformer with slide control.
Ingo Maurer's long-standing interest in materials and his passion for paper are combined with his admiration for Japanese art. With the MaMo Nouchies, Maurer and Dagmar Mombach, who developed the technique for transforming the paper, pay homage to Isamu Noguchi, whose ideas were based on the traditional Japanese craft of Akari. The name of the series comes from the first two letters of Maurer's and Mombach's last names, along with Nouchies, a pun on Noguchi. The names of the individual lamps are named after ancient tribal spirits from all over the world.
